B&W Energy Services is proud to be a part of cutting-edge projects all across the world, one of which was the Shell Prelude FLNG, where B&W was chosen to carry out pre-engineering for the pre-commissioning cleaning services needed for the innovative project. B&W mobilized personnel to execute steam blows on the project to ensure the massive 600,000 tonnes facility was ready to function at peak efficiency.
About the Shell Prelude FLNG
The Prelude FLNG (Floating Liquified Natural Gas) facility was the first of its kind, identifying new offshore energy resources that would have been unreachable prior to its construction.
- Its offshore location, approximately 300 miles northeast of Broome, Western Australia, places it in a strategic location to unlock previously unrealized potential for success
- The project was engineered to store natural gas produced in the field at -162°C, shrinking its volume by 600 times
- This allows more natural gas to be collected and gives the company the freedom to ship to customers all over the world

Shell Prelude FLNG’s Impact
A truly innovative project, the Prelude revolutionized the way natural gas resources are discovered and developed. With the Prelude’s production rates at 6 million tonnes per annum, this capability secures the project’s success.
At the time of its construction, the Prelude was the largest floating offshore facility in the world. It was truly a one-of-a-kind engineering feat that sourced expertise from around the world. B&W is proud to be among the pre-commissioning services companies that made this cutting-edge project a reality. Our team is grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to pre-commissioning activities in oil and gas for such a monumental project. We cannot wait to see what innovation continues to grow out of the Shell Prelude FLNG.
