When B&W Energy Services is engaged by a client for a project, our goal is to perform above and beyond expectations. Sometimes, that means looking at the problem from a new perspective and coming up with a better solution. Developing new cleaning technology can be critical to success.
Recently, we engaged in a pre-commissioning cleaning project at a one-over-one HRSG power plant. Our initial contact request from the client was to perform exhaustive type steam blows for an expected duration of 30 days. These HRSG projects typically consist of gas turbines to produce exhaust heat, which is captured and used to create steam to run another steam turbine. Gas turbines are not well suited for exhaustive type steam blows, as this would require many starts and stops of the gas turbine which can have a major impact on the turbine’s life span. B&W Energy Services continuous low pressure high velocity type steam blow has been the cleaning method of choice for HRSG power projects all over the world. Our relationship with the EPC contractor was forged when we designed this continuous steam blow process for these types of unique projects. The projected steam blow window for completion went from 30 days down to 7 days. When you can design new cleaning technology and implement such significant project savings, it is very easy to form long lasting relationships.
