If there’s one thing about the B&W Energy Services team, it’s that we don’t shy away from challenges. Other chemical cleaning companies may balk at the idea of performing a chemical clean halfway across the globe. We don’t blame them. It takes decades of project management expertise and a commitment to executing high-quality pre-commissioning services. Thankfully, we possess both of those. Join us on a brief trip around the world as we share some of our chemical cleaning projects from North America to Asia to Africa.

KNPC Mina Al Ahmadi Gas Train 5 Project — Kuwait, Asia
Técnicas Reunidas, a Spanish-based EPC contractor, called on B&W Energy Services to design and execute a full suite of pre-commissioning services for the fifth gas train in Kuwait National Petroleum Company’s Mina Al Ahmadi refinery. The $1.4B project was part of a larger plan to increase the refinery’s gas processing capacity by 2.463B standard cubic feet per day.
B&W performed chemical cleaning services on four heat recovery steam generators, various heat exchangers and an oxygen system. Our team also conducted site-wide steam blows, high-velocity lube oil flushing, fuel gas system flushing and AquaLazing on critical compressor suction piping systems. B&W is grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to this highly complex project and collaborate with Técnicas Reunidas and KNPC.

Geismar 3 Methanol Project — Louisiana, United States
B&W Energy Services is grateful to have partnered with Methanex Corporation and Turner Industries to design and execute a full suite of pre-commissioning services on a world-class methanol plant in Geismar, Louisiana. The Geismar 3 (G3) plant, located next to Methanex’s existing G1 and G2 plants, will 1.8 million tonnes of methanol per year while maintaining one of the lowest CO₂ emissions intensity profiles in the methanol industry upon commissioning.
B&W prepared piping systems and equipment for startup by performing chemical cleaning services, lube oil flushing services, steam blowing services, AquaLazing services, pigging services and engineering services. Conducting pre-commissioning services near two operating plants was an added challenge which our team embraced. B&W looks forward to the project’s safe, successful completion following commissioning.

Chinook Power Station — Saskatchewan, Canada
Burns & McDonnell Canada contracted B&W Energy Services to perform a chemical cleaning combined cycle project for the Chinook Power Station in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Owned by SaskPower, the 353-megawatt, natural gas-fired power plant generates enough electricity to power up to 350,000 homes in the province.
B&W successfully performed chemical cleaning services on the facility’s new triple pressure HRSG and kettle boiler systems on the one-on-one configuration power plant. Our team also provided dry silencer equipment and field support during the steam blowing process. B&W was honored to be chosen by Burns & McDonnell Canada to contribute to this significant project for Saskatchewanians.

Cove Point LNG Export Facility — Maryland, United States
B&W Energy Services headed to the East Coast to provide chemical cleaning and steam blowing services for the Cove Point LNG export facility in Lusby, Maryland. We were grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Kiewit Power Constructors and IHI to construct liquefaction facilities for exporting liquid natural gas.
The Cove Point LNG facility stores up to 14.6 billion cubic feet of liquefied natural gas and boasts a daily send-out capacity of 1.8 billion cubic feet. The complex connects to several major Mid-Atlantic gas transmission systems and stands out among other United States LNG facilities through its ability to import, export, vaporize and liquefy natural gas. B&W is grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to this one-of-a-kind project that provides over 28 countries with liquefied natural gas.

Kpone IPP Thermal Power Plant — Ghana, Africa
Group 5 contracted B&W Energy Services to work alongside PIC Energy and perform industrial chemical cleaning, steam blowing and AquaLazing services for the 340-megawatt Kpone IPP thermal power plant in Ghana. The facility accounts for over 13% of Ghana’s dependable capacity and is the largest private independent power producer in the country.
Today, this combined cycle gas turbine plant is one of Ghana’s most fuel-efficient thermal power stations. The Kpone IPP plant is one of many unique, impactful projects within our portfolio, and we’re thankful that Group 5 and PIC Energy called on us to assist during the pre-commissioning stage.

Nikiski Combined Cycle Plant — Alaska, United States
B&W Energy Services provided our professionally engineered chemical cleaning services, steam blowing services, lube oil flushing services and AquaLazing services for the Nikiski Combined Cycle Plant located on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. Our team is grateful to have been granted this opportunity by CH2M Hill.
Through this project, the Homer Electric Association became independent from its previous wholesale power supplier and began generating its own power. The 80-megawatt facility is considered the cornerstone of the Homer Electric Association’s Independent Light program, which provides locally produced power for the Kenai Peninsula. B&W Energy Services was honored to have been chosen to collaborate with CH2M Hill and the Homer Electric Association in the Last Frontier.

NOVEC Carbon-Neutral Energy Production Facility — Virginia, United States
NOVEC contracted B&W Energy Services to perform pre-commissioning services on their carbon-neutral biomass energy production facility in Halifax County, Virginia. Our team was thankful for the opportunity to contribute chemical cleaning, AquaLazing, steam blowing and lube oil flushing services to this project and increase our presence within the renewable energy sector.
The facility’s 49-megawatt capacity means it can produce enough renewable energy to power approximately 27,400 homes. B&W is grateful to have the chance to contribute to the well-being of Halifax County residents and to help the Commonwealth of Virginia meet environmental standards set by the EPA through our work on this plant.
Although we’re a Texas-based company, we’ve embraced the opportunity to expand our global presence and help contractors achieve their goals no matter where they’re located since our founding in 2002. Take a look at our project snapshots to learn more about our international accomplishments. We’d love to add your project to the map.
