SKANKSA – NRG Canal Unit 3

After a successful partnership with Skanska and Burns & McDonnell earlier this year on the Valley Energy Center for Competitive Power Ventures, the B&W Energy Services team was contracted to perform turbine pre-commissioning services on the NRG 350 megawatt gasfired turbine, known as Canal 3, in Sandwich, Massachusetts. Last year, NRG Canal 3 Development LLC submitted a Carbon Dioxide Emission Control Plan application for the new, 350-megawatt simple cycle electric generating combustion turbine on the Canal Generating Plant. Canal 3’s gas-fired turbine will supply power to a portion of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, aiding the area’s energy demand.The project will span close to 12 acres of the Canal Generating Plant site.
