HOUSTON, Texas—December 14, 2017—B&W Energy Services announces the initiation of services for three projects – Lackawanna Energy Center, TVA Allen and St. Joseph’s Energy Center. For both of these projects, B&W was selected by the engineering, procurement and construction company Kiewit for its longstanding track record of performance on previous projects.
“After several successful projects for Kiewit in the past, we were excited to be awarded services at the Lackawanna, Allen & St. Joseph’s projects,” explained B&W Marketing Manager Dennis Miller. “It is important for us to always maintain our level of quality services because we want our clients to know what they will get working with B&W.”
The state-of-the-art Lackawanna Energy Center in Jessup, Pennsylvania will be a 1,480 megawatt combined cycle power plant when construction is complete in 2018. Invenergy’s new plant will be one of the most efficient power plants in the United States, using less fuel and generating fewer emissions while maximizing usage of the heat from natural gas as fuel. B&W is already engaged in the engineering work for the AquaLazing to be performed at Lackawanna, which will occur throughout next year as the plant is completed and commissioned.
As part of Kiewit’s commitment to expand fuel diversity, it is working with the Tennessee Valley Authority to replace its coal-fired units at the Allen Fossil Plant with a natural gas plant. The new facility is a 2×1 combined cycle plant with a 1,100-megawatt generation capacity. For this project, Kiewit selected B&W to execute Aqualazing and support steam blowing for the new power plant.
The St. Joseph Energy Center is a 1,400MW greenfield natural gas-fired, combined-cycle power plant (CCPP) that is being constructed in New Carlisle, Indiana. This new plant is a joint project between the Ares EIF Group, Development Partners Funding and Toyota Tsusho St. Joseph II. Construction has been split into two phases comprising of two 700MW plants each. The output from Phase I will be capable of serving approximately 450,000 households and is expected to generate approximately 500 jobs during the construction phase and 25 permanent jobs when it comes online in the first half of 2018. B&W’s scope of work at the St. Joseph Energy Center project includes AquaLazing and steam blows.
