A hydro test is performed to ensure the structural integrity of the vessel or piping system is secure for testing and operation. The test involves:
- Filling the vessel or system with a liquid, usually water
- This liquid may be dyed to aid in leak detection
- Pressurizing the vessel or system to the specified test pressure
- Pressure tightness can be tested by shutting off the supply valve and recording whether or not there is a pressure loss
