Safety—It Begins with the Hiring Process
One of the keys to B&W’s success lies in our people, who must be fully equipped to handle every task while in the field. Our dedication to safety goes beyond the minimum requirements-we strive to hire the best people and give them the knowledge required to be outstanding in the field so they make it back home safely.
Safety plays a key role in the hiring process of our employees, which is why we screen each individual rigorously before any commitment is made. Potential employees must complete a 3-part drug test, a background check, personality test and a strength/agility test prior to employment. This ensures each employee has the capacity to handle the job in terms of physicality, and personality. Our people are the best of the best—and we make sure of it before any decision is made to bring a new team member on.
We see safety from two sides—the standard set by law, and the standard we have set from our decades of experience in the industry. The law is easy; it’s the bare-bone basic standard that each organization must follow. It says, “The employer shall instruct each employee in the recognition and avoidance of unsafe condition and the regulations applicable to his work environment to control or eliminate any hazards or other exposure to illness or injury,” but we know that isn’t enough.
B&W’s pre-qualification training includes the legal requirements, OSHA 10-hour and client requirement Basic Plus, as well as 40-hours of HAZWOPER training, Petrochemical & Chemical Product training, Heat Stress training, Fall Protection, Scaffolding, Arial Lift, and B&W’s 24/7 training porthole and mentoring program. All in all, training at B&W takes approximately three weeks to complete. These three weeks are what makes B&W employees different-they’re trained to the highest standard.
There is security in knowing B&W employees are taught how to handle situations on the job, in both a safe and effective way. We want our employees to return home safe, and we also want our clients’ projects completed on time and within budget. Our commitment to safety begins with the hiring and training process and extends to every area of our organization.
