At B&W Energy Services, we know there’s plenty to consider when you take on a new project. Between your budget, labor hours and deadlines, project execution can overwhelm even the most experienced planners.
When logistics pile up and your to-do list gets longer, the best way to remain in control of your project is to invest in expertise. As the industry’s most trusted pre-engineering and pre-commissioning cleaning provider, we have seen that expertise in the pre-commissioning process can be a deciding factor, determining whether a new construction or expansion project is executed according to plan.
One of our most recent partnerships is contributing to the Lackawanna Energy Center, owned by Invenergy and being constructed by Kiewit—our client for the project. The project consisted of 3 power units, each a 1×1 configuration with an Air-Cooled Condenser. Pre-cleaning these ACCs requires advanced knowledge and experience, which we’ve gained after years of working on these systems.
We provided AquaLazing services on the feedwater, condensate and steam systems, as well as cleaning each Air-Cooled Condenser. While Unit 1 was completed in the middle of a severe winter, Units 2 and 3 were completed this past spring and summer with great results—steam blows were completed in four days or less. Typically, units like these can take 10 to 14 days to meet cleanliness criteria. B&W’s AquaLazing reduced this duration by more than 60 percent. This gave the client a flexible cushion of time, energy and resources to spread over the remainder of the project.
For the Lackawanna Energy Center and for many others like it, our clients know that investing in B&W’s pre-commissioning services reduces cost and schedule. Thanks to our highly trained people and our expertly designed equipment, we bring clients the highest return on investment on pre-cleaning ACCS prior to startup and commissioning activities.
