HOUSTON, Texas—January 16, 2017— B&W Energy Services has completed pre-comissioning services in support of a multi-year, 800 million pounds-per-year ethylene expansion project.
B&W was brought in to support the de-bottleneck process at a south Texas job-site, which increased production by optimizing the current facility and the throughput of their current process systems. B&W provided the pre-commissioning services needed in support of the current and new equipment, while also cleaning four final transfer line exchangers.
Overall, The project increases ethylene capacity at the facility by 50 percent, from 1.7 billion pounds-per-year to 2.5 billion pounds-per-year, and completes the company’s multi-year plan to increase annual ethylene capacity in the U.S. by two billion pounds.
By expanding ethylene capacity in the U.S. through de-bottlenecks rather than long and costly greenfield developments, the client was able to quickly add substantial capacity for significantly less than the cost of a new plant. The de-bottleneck project will complete our client’s long-term investment of nearly $2 billion into projects in the Gulf Coast region.
“B&W’s dedicated personnel deployed innovative solutions to achieve incredible results on this project. After supporting this expansion for three years, we are pleased to see our dedicated work come to fruition,” explained B&W Chief Operating Officer Joel Babin.
