B&W Awarded Services as Part of the Multi-Billion Clean Fuels Project
HOUSTON, Texas—June 27, 2017—B&W Energy Services is proud to announce their latest project award in the emerging Kuwait market at the Mina Abdullah Refinery, where B&W is providing engineered chemical cleaning, steam blowing, AquaLazing and oil flushing services as part of the Kuwait National Petroleum Company’s (KNPC) Clean Fuels Project (CFP).
This project holds significant strategic importance as the country anticipates numerous projects over the next few years to upgrade outdated refineries in the region. The KNPC Clean Fuels Project is an effort to upgrade and modernize two refineries, and build a third from the ground up. KNPC is making a significant investment into their existing facilities and expanding capacity with new projects in the future.
“This project is only the beginning of our increased presence in Kuwait, as the country continues to invest billions into the Clean Fuels Project,” said Chris Oakley, Director or Sales & Engineering at B&W. “The joint venture’s choice to bring our team in on this project highlights the importance of quality, safety and experience required on a project of this magnitude, which we provide again and again for our clients across the globe. We’re proud to be a trusted partner and our work continues to exceed expectations,” Oakley added.
B&W is partnering with the Fluor-Daewoo-Hyundai Joint Venture and the owner of KNPC, which is key to their overall growth strategy in the region. KNPC awarded the $3.4 billion contract to the FDH joint venture to design, construct and commission the Mina Abdullah Package 2 CFP. The Mina Abdullah refinery is expected to reach 800,000 barrels per day upon completion.
B&W Energy Services’ significant presence in Saudi Arabia, both in terms of people and equipment, allows for quick and efficient mobilization.
“This project award strategically positions B&W for future work that will occur in Kuwait,” Oakley said. “The Kuwait market is a tight knit community and by going in and making our mark on such a significant project, B&W looks forward to being the preferred source on these services in the future. The next 5-10 years in Kuwait will provide astronomical opportunity for our team.”
