With three degrees and a multidisciplinary engineering background, Quan Nguyen brings a special curiosity and adaptability to his role as a B&W project engineer.
Originally from Vietnam, Quan earned his bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering. He taught for several years before moving to the States to earn both his master’s and his doctorate in computer science. After serving as a software engineer in the high-frequency trading world, Quan decided he wanted a change. That’s when he found B&W.
Although the pre-commissioning industry is new to Quan, he’s enjoyed diving in and applying the knowledge he gained during his undergraduate studies to a new field. He’s felt very supported by the B&W team as he navigates this career shift.
“It’s been a sharp learning curve, but I’ve always really enjoyed learning. It also helps when you have a supportive team helping you out.”
Quan appreciates how B&W empowers its employees to grow through hands-on learning in the field, certifications and training. He recently traveled to a chemical cleaning job in Utah for several weeks, which was a challenging yet rewarding experience.
When Quan isn’t at the office or out in the field, he enjoys watching soccer and rooting for Arsenal F.C., his favorite team. One day, he’d love to travel to London and visit the Emirates Stadium. Although he loves cheering on Arsenal F.C., his favorite people to cheer on are his wife and three kids.
Quan’s oldest son may only be in eighth grade, but he already has four district spelling bee wins, two regional spelling bee wins and a trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee under his belt. This year, he’ll be representing Brookside Intermediate and Clear Creek ISD at the Scripps National Spelling Bee for the second time, and Quan couldn’t be more proud. Tune into the 100th Scripps National Spelling Bee from May 27th-29th to cheer on Quan’s son!
We’re grateful to have Quan and his expertise on our team. Thank you for your invaluable contributions to B&W! See how team members like Quan go the extra mile when engineering your projects.
