At B&W, we never let a seemingly “remote” location stand in our way. Where other pre-commissioning service providers may see an obstacle—we see an opportunity.
Since our founding in 2002, our team has engineered and executed more than 170 steam blowing projects with over 4,000 unique steam blows performed in more than 20 countries. Tour the globe with us as we take a look at some of our international steam blowing projects from over the years.

Shell Pearl GTL Project — Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar
B&W Energy Services is grateful to have partnered with Shell to perform a comprehensive suite of pre-commissioning services on the largest steam system ever constructed in a single project. The Pearl GTL is the world’s largest gas-to-liquids plant, converting up to 1.6 billion cubic feet of wellhead gas from 22 offshore wells to cleaner-burning fuels and lubricants per day.
B&W provided steam blowing services, high-velocity oil flushing services and AquaLazing services for the $19 billion GTL plant. B&W is honored to have contributed to this one-of-a-kind, record-holding project in Qatar’s hub for gas-to-liquid and liquefied natural gas production.

Shell Prelude FLNG Project — Geoje, South Korea
B&W Energy Services was honored to be contracted by Technip and Shell to perform engineering and steam blowing services on the 600,000-tonne Prelude FLNG, the first facility of its kind. At the time of its construction, the Prelude was the largest floating offshore facility in the world. Today, it continues to discover new energy resources offshore that would have been unreachable prior to its creation.
The Prelude contains a large, complex steam piping network that spans the 1,601-foot vessel. The B&W team carefully designed and executed a steam blow program that took limited space aboard the vessel and heavy noise restrictions into account. B&W is grateful to have played a part of this monumental project with other pre-commissioning service providers from around the world.

Tengizchevroil Future Growth Project — Tengiz, Kazakhstan
Fluor and Worley called on B&W Energy Services to provide an engineering study for the Tengizchevroil Future Growth Project, which achieved first oil earlier this year. The Future Growth Project is the third processing plant in operation at the Tengiz oil field, the world’s largest deepest producing supergiant oil field and single-trap producing reservoir.
The project is also expected to increase output to one million barrels of oil equivalent per day and expand sour gas expansion capability. B&W’s engineering study for the Future Growth Project defined the scope, mapped out steam blows and identified necessary design modifications on systems and plant resources. Our team is grateful to have had the chance to collaborate with Fluor and Worley on another international project.

Cariboo Pulp and Paper Mill — Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada
The TES Group contracted B&W Energy Services to design and execute steam blowing services on Cariboo Pulp and Paper’s new boiler system. Today, the mill has the capacity to produce up to 340,000 tonnes of high-quality Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft (NBSK) pulp a year.
Although the project’s condensed timeline posed a challenge, the B&W team successfully performed steam blows on the boiler system’s components on schedule. B&W is grateful to have had this opportunity to collaborate with the TES Group once again and to have partnered with them on various projects over the years.

Lilama 18 Power Boiler Project — Hà Tĩnh, Vietnam
B&W Energy Services appreciated the chance to provide pre-commissioning services for Lilama 18’s coal-fired power plant steam blow project. Their once-through power boiler required high-pressure exhaustive steam blows and our team utilized our quick-opening 900 psi gate valves for this task.
Our specially engineered valves reached pressures of up to 1,000 psi in order to achieve effective cleaning velocities prior to the facility’s startup. B&W was honored to be chosen by Lilama 18 to contribute to this project in Vietnam.
Wherever your project may be, B&W Energy Services can mobilize to provide steam blows for your facility. From HRSG and supercritical boiler steam blowing in power plants to refineries and GTL plants, our team’s engineering expertise and steam blowing process have allowed us to perform expert steam blows for over 20 years. Contact our team to see how B&W’s steam blows in pre commissioning can elevate your facility’s cleanliness.
